Bra Size Guide
So you've found the bra you like but are unsure what size you should be buying, well read on as Bra.co.uk helps you get the correct fit!
Then you can measure yourself at home and actually enjoy wearing your correct size bra all day in comfort instead of buying the wrong size and being uncomfortable as so many of us are. We can offer you tips and advice on what size and style of bra you should be wearing to help support your breasts and back properly. Statistics show that a shocking 80% of UK women wear the wrong size bra.
Ok so first of all you are going to need a measuring tape and maybe a full length mirror to help you ensure you are measuring in the right places.
1. Find your band size
To find your band size you will need to measure under your bust, so place the measuring tape under your bust area and ensure the tape is straight and level at front and back. Use the mirror as you will need to see that you are measuring in the correct area. Do not wear a bra while measuring for your new bra.
The tape should be snuggly fit but not overly tight,as your bra will stretch as but still needs to be comfortable. You should then be able to work out what size you should be around the band area - which would be the 34,36,38,40 and so on, part of the bra sizing.
If your size falls between the standard sizes such as a 35,always go up so your size would be a 36.
2. Find your cup size
To find your cup size you will now need to measure around the fullest area of your breasts, which is usually over the nipple area.
Again ensure the tape measure is level around the front and back by using the mirror.
Here your cup size will be determined by your band size also, so if you measure a 34 in your band size and your cup measurement was a 35 you should be wearing an A cup, so the size of bra you should buy would be a 34A.
And so on, so each inch of difference from your band size equals which size cup you should wear.
Example
band size 36, cup size 40 = 36D
If you are minus an inch in your cup size compaired to your band size that would equal a AA size cup.
Please be aware that these are guides only and all makes or styles of bra may vary.
3. Ways to tell if your bra is the wrong size
There are a few ways you can tell yourself that you may already be wearing the wrong size bra such as:
- Your shoulder straps will dig into your shoulders.
- The band will ride up at the back.
- The front of the bra may jut out and make a gap between your breasts.
- The underwires may dig into your ribcage.
- Your breasts buldge over the bra cup.
- The cup may look baggy.
- The front area of the bra may lift up too much making your breasts buldge out the bottom near the band.
Also some women have one breast larger than the other, sometimes only by half a size or it maybe more. But for all cases such as this, you should wear a bra that is the correct fit for the larger breast and then tighten the strap so the cup fits the smaller breast. You could also add some light padding if required.
